Carpentry Educational Workshop for Decreasing Waste from the Furniture Industry
Carpentry Educational Workshop for Decreasing Waste from the Furniture Industry
The overall goal of the project is to promote socially responsible and environmental practices in carpentry and waste reduction in the furniture industry by creating a carpentry-educational center. There is currently no adult carpentry training center. The people who work in carpentry are mostly self-taught, ie they are people who have received training through work, and people who have passed the school of carpentry are rare. In addition, the furniture industry does not approach the topic of production from the aspect of circular economy, which is why they do not see the generated waste as a potential raw material. Because of this, we believe that such a defined goal will enable the practices of waste material reuse to be accepted by a growing number of companies, and thus to accept more environmental practices that will lead to waste reduction. At the moment there is no company that collects waste from the furniture industry and uses it, but that does not mean that all companies dispose of waste properly. Therefore, out of the assumed 300 tons of waste, we strive for pilot utilization of 1 ton of waste from the furniture industry in the first year, which would double with each passing year, to achieve geometric progression in 5 years, ie utilization of 16 tons of waste, or a total 31 tons, ie 44 m3 of waste in 5 years, thanks to the spread of environmental practices among companies and citizens.
The specific objectives of the project are divided into three groups according to the area: social, educational and environmental.
Our specific ecological goal is the use of the rest-material of composite, slab wood in the production of furniture, where as a pilot in the first year we will use at least 1 ton, ie 90 m2 of the rest of the material from the company Akron. The company Akron, thanks to its environmentally oriented views, does not take the waste to waste, but collects it because there is no place to give it for use.
Our specific social goal is to enable preparation for employment in the furniture industry, by organizing a workshop for employment of 10 people. This would increase the capacity of at least 5 people and open employment opportunities in the furniture industry. Our specific educational goal is to enable the promotion of sustainable carpentry practices, by organizing 5 workshops for a total of 50 people.
