To provide quality comprehensive care and support to HIV infected & affected children, their families and communities in a sustainable manner.
1.1. Project Summary

This particular project will be undertaken by Children of God Relief Institute ? Nyumbani Village, Kitui funded by GEF, Small Grants Programme. With the previous collaborations and help among other others which has facilitated the excavation of the water pond, fencing around the pond, pond liners, tanks, tank stands and piping system from the pond to the tanks. During the rainy season, water collects from the greenhouses roof and channeled to the pond. The water is then pumped by solar powered pump into the elevated tanks for use in the greenhouses through the gravity. However, due to high temperatures during the day there is a high evaporation rate and degradation of water collecting pipes. Thus there is a need to put a shade net to cover the pond which will significantly reduce the evaporation rate by 90%. The painting of the collection pipes would prolong their lifespan.

1.2. summary of 1st project and relevant linkages.
COGRI-Nyumbani village offers residence to 1,000 orphaned children and 100 elderly destitute grandparents. The village community is given holistic care that ranges from social, nutritional, medical, psychological, educational, parental, spiritual as well as household support. Nyumbani Village embraces sustainable approaches in both farming and environmental conservation. We tap solar energy to run machines in the offices, clinic, workshops and water pumps in our boreholes-that not only provide water to the families but also the farm. GEF Small Grants Programme has partnered with Nyumbani Village to enhance these services and promote use of renewable energy. However, this project has been co-financed. GEF is funding the upgrade of the solar system in the clinic and construction of 4 greenhouses whereas Nyumbani Village Program will co-fund streetlights, construction of water reservoir and pipe works.

1.3. Project Objectives and Expected Results
The primary objective is put a shade net to cover the pond which will significantly reduce the evaporation rate as a result of dry and hot hostile weather condition as well as painting of the collection pipes.

By doing this we shall have reduce water evaporation rate by 90%.
The painting of the collection pipes would prolong their lifespan.

This will ensure and assure continuous irrigation into the green houses since there will be continuous water supply. This in turn increase crop productivity and result to high yields.

1.4. Description of Project Activities
This will involve the construction and erection of a shed net around the water pond to curb water evaporation. The painting of the collection pipes would prolong their lifespan and the repair of dam liners to prevent water spillage.
