Piloting climate adaptive livelihood solutions through productive use of renewable energy for climate vulnerable hoar communities in Bangladesh
Piloting climate adaptive livelihood solutions through productive use of renewable energy for climate vulnerable hoar communities in Bangladesh
Climate change is likely to impact the haor regions of northeast Bangladesh by the gradual onset of climatic stresses such as rising temperatures, losing aquifer of groundwater, as well as an increased occurrence of disasters? i.e. floods, cyclones, storms surges, and riverbank erosion. Disaster management , response and impact is highly gendered across diverse demands and settings. The needs and priorities in various stages of the disaster cycle are highly differentiated in a social and cultural context showing intersectionality with poverty, livelihoods, health gendered roles and age. Gendered and vulnerable groups often hold vital social knowledge and vast untapped capacity for reducing community risks. Thus, gender & vulnerable group specific initiatives can create an empowering space for diverse community participants to act as an important incubator for ideas and strategies that can be transferred to mainstream interventions. These interventions might, for example, center upon identified issues as transportation, short and long-term migration, create local based employment opportunities through solving self-community problem & issues. To address current and future climate energy risks of haor communities due to climate change, this pilot project promotes strategies to enhance their ?adaptive capacity?, Developing sustainable climate-resilient communities has the potential to protect livelihood options and ensure access to basic services for both women and men residing in the northeast haor belt of Bangladesh.
The proposed piloting project & approaches will introduce an integrated community-based entrepreneurship model that will provide clean energy nexus alternative livelihood options that will create local employment opportunities, reduce seasonal migration, increase access to clean water, reliable & affordable clean energy, empowered women, help to reduce seasonal migration & create evidence of household-based energy generation hub. The project will demonstrate an innovative cooperative managed Livelihood Subsidy revolving fund (LSRF) model through piloting small hybrid (Off/On) grid-tied rooftop solar PV-powered RMG and water purifying systems that can be linked with other alternative livelihood businesses.
More Specific this project will
1. Pilot community based Women Lead RMG Business entrepreneur powered by Solar PV system as solution of alternative livelihood portions. It will create direct employment opportunity for around 50 women/adolescent /Vulnerable people and revolving training opportunity for 30 new trainees from every 6 months long batches.
