Nyumbani Children's home project is addressing climate change through provision of quality comprehensive care and support to HIV infected & affected children, their families and communities in a sustainable manner. Nyumbani village offers residence to 1000 orphaned children and 100 elderly destitute grandparents. The village community is given holistic care that ranges from social, nutritional, medical, psychological, educational, parental, spiritual to household support. Nyumbani Village embraces sustainable approaches in both farming and environmental conservation. They tap solar energy to run machines in the offices, clinic, workshops and water pumps in boreholes-that not only provide water to the families but also the farm. To enhance these services and promote use of renewable energy, the GEF funded Nyumbani village to upgrade the solar system in the clinic as well as construction of 4 green houses. They have achieved the following results: i)The clinic has adequate supply of power aiding to smooth running of medical laboratory equipment as well as lighting in the clinic.
