KWCA is a landowner led national membership association organization that serves the interests and collective voice of community and private conservancies. KWCA works to create an enabling environment for conservancies to thrive by advocating for the right laws and incentives and supporting them through sharing information and capacity building.
The conservancy movement in Kenya has grown very fast in the last two decades. KWCA currently bring together 160 private and community conservancies in 19 Counties spread across the country with majority located within indigenous pastoral communities and adjacent to Kenya’s most diverse protected areas. The Conservancies currently conserve key wildlife habitats, dispersal areas and migratory routes covering 6.5 million Ha (approximately 11% of Kenya’s terrestrial land mass).
KWCA represents and works towards the needs of its 160 member conservancies and 11 regional associations by providing a united voice to advocate for better enabling policies, laws and regulations affecting conservancies; providing technical support to communities and landowners to establish and manage conservancies; and representing conservancies in national and international meetings.
KWCA further aims at mobilizing landowners and communities to create a network of non-state protected areas, secure indigenous rights to land and create viable income opportunities to communities. It supports its members by providing technical and capacity support and create an enabling environment for conservancies to deliver societal and environmental outcomes.
